A superb complex organic Caerphilly, Gorwydd moves from notes of fresh milk and citrus into creamy umami and farmy finish. The cheese was a Super Gold at the 2019 World Cheese Awards and ranked eleventh in the top sixteen.
Originally made at Gorwydd Farm by the Trethowan Brothers in Wales, but now produced in north Somerset (having moved there for the best organic milk supplies), this award winning Caerphilly is aged for added character and complexity. The rind is crusted with grey and brown moulds incorporating the ageing room into the cheese. Just past the rind, Gorwydd is creamy, with mushroom and farm notes; towards the middle it becomes fresher with a lemony lactic kick. When tasting you can see why it was selected as eleventh best cheese in the world.
Upon completion of your order, you will be asked to select a delivery date. We will always work to deliver to you on your date chosen but sometimes delays may occur. We will contact you if a change to the delivery date is required. At check-out, your delivery charge will be calculated.
All our products are packed in Cheese Cuisine boxes (unless you have ordered a giftbox or added a hamper to your order) with filling (bubble wrap where needed) and gel ice packs when required, to preserve the quality of fresh products.
Your cheese will arrive wrapped in speciality cheese paper and we recommend you refrigerate it as soon as it arrives. We recommend using your cheese within five days of purchase, however, many cheeses will last far longer. To serve, take your cheese out of the fridge, unwrap, and let it come to room temperature before serving (about an hour). To see more about taking care of cheese click here.

Todd and Maugan Trethowan are the cheese making brothers who began their careers on the family farm near Llandewi Brefi in the Teifi Valley Ceredigion over 25 years ago. They are the master cheesemakers behind the award winning Pitchfork Cheddar and Gorwydd Caerphilly. Using unpasteurized milk and traditional methods to create their Caerphilly cheese, they experimented with each stage of the process, including allowing the cheese to mature for longer than other Caerphilly cheeses, giving Gorwydd its unique flavours.
